Hard facts about substance abuse in Tennessee

Tennessee has a reputation for excessive drug use, especially in the recent years. They are ranked the 3rd highest state for substance abuse in the United States. Studies show that around 5% of state residents use non-prescribed prescription drugs and 70% of them obtained the drugs from a friend or family member.

Are prescription drugs the main cause of substance abuse in Tennessee?

No, the number of prescription drug users is high (too high) but as of late, heroin has become the number one drug used by Tennesseans.

Heroin facts

Law enforcement officials have recently discovered through lab testing that a considerable amount of heroin circulating around the state has been laced with Fentanyl. This is especially scary because Fentanyl is far more potent than heroin and even the smallest amount can be deadly.

Methamphetamine facts

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) estimates that there are more than 800 methamphetamine labs around the state. While the number of methamphetamine users has seen a recent decrease, the amount of users is still staggering. Methamphetamine causes major damage to your body and the toxic chemicals used to make it are extremely harmful to the environment.

What should you do if you're suffering from a drug addiction?

Substance abuse/addiction is not to be taken lightly; this is a very serious disease. If you're suffering from a drug addiction, seek help immediately. The ramifications these drugs have are devastating and life threatening.
