Man saves lives with license to carry gun

Some people believe that guns can save lives, and there may be a good reason for that based on this story. According to Fox News, a 22-year-old man with a license to carry stopped a church shooting in Tennessee.

The young man fought off the attacker barehanded at first, but after the gunman injured himself, returned to his vehicle and brought his own weapon back into the church. There, he held the intruder at gunpoint until the police arrived.

The suspect in this case, a 25-year-old man, was a refugee from Sudan. He came to the United States after fleeing the civil war in his country. It's not clear why he intended to open fire in the church, but in the past, he had allegedly sent suicidal messages to his father.

The good news in this case is that around 16.4 million people in the United States have a right to carry guns legally in public. Some believe that having more guns reduces crime, not the other way around. In fact, the author of "More Guns, Less Crime," says that the states that have more concealed carry permits experienced the largest relative drops in murder and violent crimes. Still, not everyone agrees.

Others, like members of the National Academy of Sciences, found no credible evidence to support the author's claim. More recent research shows that concealed carry could actually be elevating violent crime rates.

As someone accused of a gun crime, you know there is more than one side to every story. You have a right to bear arms and to defend yourself against unfair allegations.
